The experts are saying the stars are lining up to bring back $4 per gallon gasoline in 2010. With 7.6 million of us out of work, we haven’t been requiring as much gas. Yet gas prices have still gone up.

In just the past month alone, the average price of gasoline in the U.S. has risen 20 cents per gallon. The average price of gasoline now is $2.65 per gallon, unleaded regular. December and the winter season is typically the lowest priced time of year for gasoline, and yet, we’re this high. The price of oil is about $80 per barrel.

Last year about this time, oil was $35 per barrel. Yikes! What that says to us is that we are going to have to pay for all the extra barrels of oil that have not been used with the decreased need for gasoline, and still have to pay the sky high prices of those barrels of oil.

So the experts are predicting next summer, which is typically the high season for gasoline demand that the prices will jump to over $4 per gallon. Maybe we should schedule our vacations for January and February and have a stay-cation (stay at home vacation) next summer.
